The American Discovery 250 Relay is a 21-week long relay with people from all fifty states involved in carrying a copy of the Declaration of Independence from Sea to Shining Sea.
After a launch on July 1 at Point Reyes National Seashore the relay will cross the Golden Gate Bridge on the 4th of July, followed by a celebratory gathering on San Francisco's waterfront.
After leaving the Pacific Ocean, the relay continues onto Lake Tahoe (July 14), Colorado River (Aug 8), Continental Divide (Sep. 2), Mississippi River (10/2), Appalachian Mtn Watershed (11/12), Washington, DC (11/20), and Atlantic Ocean (Thanksgiving), with stops in state capitals and cities such as Sacramento, Carson City, Denver, Jefferson City, Lincoln, St. Louis, Des Moines, Kansas City, Chicago, and Annapolis.
The relay event on the 4th of July is a free event, involving walking, biking, and/or running and is open to people of all ages and abilities. We meet at the Lone Sailor at 10 am and then walk across the bridge as a group, followed by an event on the SF waterfront. Best access to the start is public transit to the southern end of the bridge and then the 2-mile walk across to the northern end.
