New mascot will help inspire participation and bring communities together as the nation approaches its Semiquincentennial celebration
WASHINGTON, D.C. (June 5, 2026) — America250, the bipartisan commission charged by Congress with leading celebrations for the 250th anniversary of the United States, today officially introduced George the Star, its first-ever mascot designed to embody the spirit, optimism and momentum building nationwide ahead of the historic Semiquincentennial.
As America250 continues engaging communities across the country, George the Star will serve as a welcoming symbol of participation and celebration, inspiring Americans of all ages to join in commemorating 250 years of history while helping shape the stories and experiences that define the nation’s future.
Like mascots associated with major sporting events and cultural celebrations, George is intended to create a recognizable and family-friendly symbol that Americans of all ages can rally around during the Semiquincentennial.
George the Star has already begun making appearances as part of America250’s growing national celebration efforts. Most recently, George joined volunteers at a Coca-Cola Consolidated food packing event at Nationals Park in Washington, D.C., benefiting the Capital Area Food Bank, where more than 50,000 meals were packed alongside the Washington Nationals, Harris Teeter, Leidos and America250.
“As we continue building toward the Semiquincentennial, we’re thrilled to introduce George as a symbol of the energy, dedication and incredible work happening across America250,” said Rosie Rios, Chair of America250. “George brings a sense of warmth, optimism and fun to this historic moment, creating a welcoming way for people of all ages to connect with our mission and celebrate together. We hope George helps inspire even more Americans to take part in this once-in-a-generation moment.”
The star has long been one of the most enduring symbols in American history and culture. From the 50 stars on the American flag representing the unity of the states, to Francis Scott Key’s “The Star-Spangled Banner,” stars have come to symbolize resilience, aspiration and hope throughout the American story. Across generations, the symbol has also served as a guiding light – reflecting the pioneering spirit, optimism and shared ideals that have helped shape the nation’s identity.
In the months ahead, George will appear at America250 and partner events across the country, including Our American Story stops, America’s Block Party in Los Angeles (July 4), MLB All-Star Week in Philadelphia (July 11), America’s Field Trip where he will surprise awardees this summer, and more. Earlier this year, America250 Chair Rosie Rios shared the plush version of George during the White House Easter Egg Roll, offering an early glimpse of the character.
The “George the Star Collection” is now available on the America250 Official Store, featuring George the Star plushies, coloring books, t-shirts and more.

About America250
America250 is the national nonpartisan initiative working to engage every American in celebrating and commemorating the Semiquincentennial, the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. It is spearheaded by the congressionally-appointed U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission and its sole-supporting nonprofit organization, America250.org, Inc., together known as America250. This multi-year effort kicked off with America’s Invitation on July 4, 2023: a national public engagement campaign inviting all Americans to share their stories and their hopes and dreams for the future of this country. Leading up to July 4, 2026, America250 is working to provide opportunities for all Americans to pause and reflect on our nation’s past, honor the contributions of all Americans, and look to the future we want to create for the next generation and beyond.
