Our AmericanStory

Our American Story is a storytelling project to collect and preserve our nation’s unique stories. We're on a historic journey to collect the largest archive of American stories ever created.

Share Your Story!

Your story is Our American Story. We’re collecting reflections and perspectives from Americans from every corner of our nation and every background.

  • Finish by filling out a brief form with your name and email, then accept the release terms.

Nominate a Story

This is your opportunity to nominate a living person — a friend, family member, neighbor, or community leader — whose story you think needs to be shared and preserved.

Our American Story is a year-long, cross-country journey, collecting thousands of recorded interviews. Each tour stop will feature local activation events, media opportunities, and community engagement activities.

Facilitated by trained interviewers, sessions will follow curated storytelling prompts centered around themes of identity, service, community, and personal legacy. Conversations will be recorded and archived, and a portion will be preserved at the Library of Congress, ensuring these voices become a permanent part of the American record.

Select stories — especially those featuring veterans, educators, and intergenerational families — will be shared with the public through collaborations with documentary filmmakers, broadcast outlets, and digital platforms.

Giving 4th

A new tradition starts now.

We’ve always been a nation of givers. Imagine what could happen if we all gave at the same time. Introducing Giving 4th, our campaign that calls on all Americans to add something new to their July 4th celebrations: giving back to the causes and communities they care about.
Join the new tradition — take the pledge.
