On Saturday, July 4, 2026, America250 - the national, nonpartisan organization charged by Congress with leading the celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence - will ceremonially bury "America’s Time Capsule" at Independence National Historical Park in Philadelphia.

Established through America250’s founding legislation, America’s Time Capsule serves as the official national time capsule commemorating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The capsule contains contributions from all three branches of the federal government, all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the five U.S. territories, preserving a snapshot of America at 250 for future generations. See a full list of contents here.

The burial ceremony will bring together representatives from the Executive, Legislative and Judicial branches of government for a rare commemorative and highly visual moment during the nation's Semiquincentennial. Following a multi-year collaboration among America250, the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), the Library of Congress, the National Park Service and additional project partners, the capsule will be permanently placed within Independence National Historical Park and remain sealed until 2276.
