Held over Memorial Day weekend, May 21-25, the Tragedy Assistance Program for Survivors (TAPS) will host their 32nd Annual National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp. This annual event creates a unique space where families of fallen heroes will connect with others who have experienced similar losses, get the support they need, and honor their loved ones. Military families from across the country will come together to attend expert-led grief and trauma workshops and powerful Memorial Day observances, including visits to Arlington National Cemetery and a parade honoring those who have died in service.
Throughout the weekend, grieving military children will attend the TAPS Good Grief Camp. This program is led by child development, mental health, and education experts and designed to meet the unique needs of children grieving the death of a military or veteran loved one. Surviving children will honor their loved one, connect with peers, and learn coping skills through workshops, games, crafts, and other age-appropriate activities in a fun, supportive environment. Informative and interactive sessions and opportunities to connect with peers are also provided for adults and young adults, ages 18 and up.
“Our National Military Survivor Seminar and Good Grief Camp brings together families united by loss and bound by love, offering a place where they are understood without explanation and supported without hesitation,” said Bonnie Carroll, President and Founder of TAPS. “For more than three decades, TAPS has stood beside those grieving a military-connected death, whether in combat, by suicide, through illness, or by accident. In the face of unimaginable loss, we ensure that no survivor walks this journey alone. We honor the lives of those who served by caring for the families they loved, and by helping their legacies endure in the hearts of a grateful nation.”
