We are proud to announce that "Brave Men As Ever Fought", the powerful portrait by acclaimed artist Don Troiani, will be housed at the Charter Museum through Summer 2025. This exhibition offers a unique opportunity for students, local residents, and out-of-state visitors to experience an integral part of Rhode Island's Revolutionary War history in person.

The portrait honors the First Rhode Island Regiment, a pivotal and diverse group of soldiers who played a crucial role in the American Revolution. Created with meticulous historical accuracy, "Brave Men As Ever Fought" vividly depicts the courage and sacrifice of these soldiers, many of whom were Black and Indigenous, serving alongside the troops of the Second Rhode Island Regiment. The regiment's contributions to the fight for independence are vital to understanding Rhode Island’s essential role in shaping the early history of the United States.

The official unveiling of the portrait will take place on March 4th at 3:30 PM during a special ceremony at the State House. The event will feature a speaking portion hosted by Secretary of State Gregg Amore, the Museum of the American Revolution, and the National Park Service along with remarks from other notable figures, commemorating the significance of this artwork and the legacy of the First Rhode Island Regiment.
