The Annearrundell County Free School was established by an act of the Colonial Assembly in 1723. The school is thought to be the oldest one-room schoolhouse in Maryland that is still standing. Docents will be highlighting a "Colonial Education" as part of the Maryland Day "Unity Through Community" 2025 celebration. A schoolmarm will demonstrate the preparation of johnnycakes and will provide a sampling. Children will make butter. A schoolmaster will demonstrate colonial toys. Children will write on slates. Children will also use a quill pen and write with walnut ink made from walnuts found on the property. Additional hands-on activities are being planned. Come meet colonial educators and learn what education was like over 300 years ago. Admission and all hands-on activities are free.

Giving 4th

A new tradition starts now.

We’ve always been a nation of givers. Imagine what could happen if we all gave at the same time. Introducing Giving 4th, our campaign that calls on all Americans to add something new to their July 4th celebrations: giving back to the causes and communities they care about.
Join the new tradition — take the pledge.
