In honor of the United States’ 250th anniversary, LSFM reflects on Texas’s contributions to national and global aviation achievements. Texas was home to several major pilot training locations during World War I and II, including Ellington Field, here in Houston. Texas manufacturers designed and produced thousands of aircraft for the war effort, as well as the post-war boom in civilian and commercial air travel. Many regional and national airlines, some of which still exist today, were founded in Texas. The Made in Texas: 116 Years of Texas Aviation History exhibition features photographs, artifacts, and aircraft from the LSFM collection celebrating the incredible people, planes, and companies the Lone Star State has produced.
