The Haywood County Historical & Genealogical Society (HCH&GS) is hosting a Pioneer Heritage Festival in Clyde, NC, on Saturday, July 26, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The festival is free to the public and will take place on the grounds of the Museum of Haywood County History at 178 Morgan Street.

The Pioneer Heritage Festival will promote Haywood County's early pioneer history. It will introduce Haywood County's veterans of the American Revolution, including Jacob Shook, who built the historic house in which the Museum of Haywood County History is located. Heritage demonstrations will be held onsite with artisans showcasing the skills that were needed for daily living in the early 1800s, the same skills that Jacob Shook and his family relied on when their house was built around 1800. HCH&GS genealogists will be on duty in the Museum Visitor Center to help visitors trace their family roots back to the early 1800s. Members of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) and the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will help visitors learn how to identify ancestors who fought in the American Revolution. The festival is a family-friendly event. Kids of all ages will enjoy unique “hands-on” activities, including shelling corn, pumping water, churning butter, making cane fishing poles, playing with colonial toys, and interacting with each other at selfie stations. Food trucks will be on site, and old-time music will be performed by local musicians. For more information, contact [email protected] or call 828-564-1044.
