Join the City for a family-friendly Sesquisemiquincentennial Celebration on Colorado Day, Aug. 1, 2026, as we commemorate three historic milestones: the 250th anniversary of the United States, the 150th anniversary of Colorado statehood, and the opening of Centennial Park's original 1976 time capsule.
Held at Eleanor M. Wyatt Centennial Park & Sculpture Garden, this special community event will celebrate our nation, state, and local history while looking ahead to the future. Attendees of all ages are invited to enjoy food trucks, live music, family-friendly activities, community displays, and the unveiling of a new park design.
A highlight of the celebration will be the opening of the time capsule buried at Centennial Park in 1976 during the nation's Bicentennial celebration. Community members will have the opportunity to view items preserved for 50 years before a new time capsule is sealed and buried to be reopened in 2076.
In honor of the original involvement of Northglenn High School students in the 1976 time capsule project, the City partnered with the school once again for the new capsule. Students participated in an art competition themed "Hope for the World 2076," with the winning entry created by senior Jade Rios. Her work will become part of the new time capsule and represents the community's hopes for future generations.
The City of Northglenn welcomes residents, families, students, and visitors from across the region to come together for this memorable celebration of history, community pride, and the future.
