The Colorado Railroad Museum is thrilled to announce the opening of its newest exhibit, "Traqueros: Mexican Trackworkers and the American Railroad." This powerful display explores the invaluable—yet often overlooked—contributions of Mexican and Mexican American laborers who built and maintained America's railroads.
Through a compelling collection of photographs, artifacts, and personal stories, the exhibit highlights the perseverance, culture, and legacy of traqueros, whose work not only kept the nation's railroads running but also shaped communities across the United States. Visitors will gain insight into the hardships these workers faced, from demanding labor and difficult living conditions to the resilience and traditions they carried with them. This will be the Museum's first exhibit to feature bilingual text and labels in both English and Spanish, ensuring broader accessibility and honoring the cultural heritage of the traquero community.
The exhibit is housed in the Museum Depot's Lower Gallery and included in general admission. This exhibit is part of the Museum's 2026 commemorative programming in support of Colorado's 150th and America's 250th anniversaries.
We invite you to join the Museum in honoring the legacy of the traqueros and reflecting on their lasting impact on American history and culture. Traqueros: Mexican Trackworkers and the American Railroad opens October 14, 2025, at the Colorado Railroad Museum. This exhibit will remain on display through August of 2026.
