What does America mean to you?

Many things my family has experienced, help me appreciate America. My great-grandparents immigrated from Germany to the US via Paraguay because they wanted religious freedom. On the other side of my family, two of my ancestors’ names are engraved at Ellis Island under Mommsen. America welcomed all these people. One of my brothers has a disease, Type 1 Diabetes, that requires drugs that are expensive. With the help of government insurance, our family can pay for the expenses and we hope that everyone who needs medication can get it. America is a place where people can live in freedom.
