The Pennsylvania Commission for the United States Semiquincentennial, also known as America250PA, held its Spring Reception at the Kimmel Center in Philadelphia on Wednesday, April 27.
Joe Daniels, President & CEO of the America250 Foundation, and Frank Giordano, Executive Director of the United States Semiquincentennial Commission, were excited to join America250PA for the reception. Daniels also joined the state commission for its board meeting earlier that day for a discussion on the vision and plans for America’s 250th.
Pennsylvania played a vital role in the nation’s founding, and America250PA – the first state 250th commission to be established in 2018 – has been hard at work energizing the Commonwealth around the upcoming Semiquincentennial.
“Our team at America250 is very excited to be working closely with Carpenters’ Company on the Young People’s Continental Congress to kick off the core commemorative period in Philadelphia in the summer of 2024. That 2-year period will build towards the National Semiquincentennial Convention in 2026, which will include a summer-long series of events across the country, with marquee events in Philadelphia in the weeks leading up to July 4, such as the burying of the America250 Time Capsule in Independence Mall, a civic convening bringing together delegations from across the country, and a cultural festival,” shared Daniels.
The America250 Foundation looks forward to continuing our collaboration with America250PA and other state 250th commissions as we build toward a commemoration that will amplify unique stories and bring communities together across the country.
The following are the current states with semiquincentennial commissions: Alabama, Arizona, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
