Washington, D.C. — April 1, 2026 — America250, the national nonpartisan organization charged by Congress to lead the commemoration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, today announced Citi as a sponsor, recognizing the global bank’s more than 200 year history of supporting American growth, innovation and economic opportunity.

Founded in 1812 as the City Bank of New York, Citi’s history is deeply intertwined with that of the nation itself. From helping finance the United States during the War of 1812 to supporting critical infrastructure and building the financial systems that power modern American business, Citi has played a foundational role in the country’s development. Today, Citi’s financial products touch the lives of approximately 70 million Americans — supporting small businesses, expanding access to credit and helping families achieve homeownership.

“Citi’s longstanding commitment to innovation and economic opportunity reflects the resilience and progress that have defined our nation for 250 years,” said Rosie Rios, Chair of America250. “As we approach this historic milestone, Citi’s sponsorship will help expand opportunity and strengthen communities nationwide.”

Giving back is one of Citi’s core values, with company volunteers donating over 40,000 hours of service in 2025 alone. Through its engagement with America250, Citi will serve as a founding sponsor of America Gives, leveraging its annual Global Community Day and year-round volunteer service to mobilize colleagues, alumni, family and friends to serve their communities in support of the largest volunteer effort in U.S. history.

Citi’s enduring commitment to community impact includes being the nation’s top affordable housing lender for 15 consecutive years. This year, the company announced its $60 billion Blueprint for Housing Opportunity initiative to create or preserve 250,000 units. The Citi Foundation has also committed $50 million in grants to non-profits addressing housing challenges and supporting the financial health of residents in their communities.

“For more than 200 years, Citi has backed the innovators who have shaped this country and the world,” said Jane Fraser, Chair and CEO of Citi. “We’re sponsoring America250 as a celebration of what this nation has built and how much remains possible.”
