A photo showing the 1983 painting of The Last Cantonment, which shows General George Washington and three men on horses overlooking a town during the winter.

This image is from the original painting The Last Cantonment 1782-83 by my father John F. G. (1906-1996). General George Washington felt the war was over but wanted to be sure and decided to encamp the soldiers for a very fierce winter in New Windsor, NY. Washington had to quell a rebellion by the soldiers during the stay and was successful. This site is also the home of the National Purple Heart Hall Of Honor.
