The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Championship Trials will mark its 40th anniversary in 2026, coinciding with Colorado's 150th and the nation's 250th anniversaries. The Meeker Classic Sheepdog Trials is known as the trial "to go to" by handlers around the world. 135 Border Collies from the US and Canada will match up against the famous Meeker Sheep for one of the world's toughest sheepdog competitions. The Meeker Classic intertwines sheepdog trials, education, and culture into a week-long showcase of volunteerism, sportsmanship, stewardship and friendship. Even more so significant is the true sense of community it elicits for all those involved.
To commemorate these shared milestones, the Meeker Classic will host a Story in the Sky drone show over Meeker on Thursday, September 10, 2026 that will feature our nation's and state's heritage as well of the story of the Meeker Classic. This event is a one-of-a-kind celebration that blends modern technology with the longstanding customs that forged our country. Hundreds of drones will illuminate the night sky over Meeker telling the story of our state and our nation and the Meeker Classic. Behind the Meeker Classic and Colorado lies the pioneering spirit and values of hard work, community and resilience that embodies the American West.
The 250/150 Drone Show will serve as both a tribute to the past and a vision for the future, honoring four decades of dedication by volunteers, competitors, and supporters who have made the Meeker Classic a cornerstone of Colorado's cultural landscape.
