Alaska’s Week of Dreams: Celebrating America250 through Baseball

To share this little-known yet longstanding history of Alaska Baseball, five specific deliverables have been identified that will accompany the Week of Dreams baseball activities cited above and inform the public about this rich history:
1) Alaska’s Fields of Dreams: America’s Pastime in the Far North Traveling Exhibit:
A nine-panel, free-standing exhibit that shares the history of Alaska baseball from its Indigenous origins, role in the Americanization of Alaska, transporting traditions and challenging social norms, environmental manifestations, impacting morale in wartime, to the world-renowned Midnight SunClassic and the Alaska Baseball League. The exhibit is currently on display at the Rasmuson Library at UAF.
3) Alaska’s Fields of Dreams: Storymap:
The ESRI-built digital story map will identify the locations of Alaska’s historic baseball fields, including the recently listed on the National Register Growden Memorial Ballpark.
2) Alaska’s Fields of Dreams: America’s Pastime in the Far North Book:
A 32-page, full-color, illustrated booklet, complementing the exhibit, will be distributed to the U.S. Congress, the MLB Hall of Fame, and Gold Panners games.
4) Alaska in Motion Patch/Tee:
An artistically designed expression of Alaska's long history of movement, embodied today by our Alaska athletes. Patches will be distributed to athletes representing Alaska at the Winter Olympics and World Cup, worn by players and coaches of the Alaska Baseball League and Goldpanners, and celebrated by our Week of Dreams participants.
5) ABL/Goldpanners/Historic Jerseys:
Producing vintage jerseys that can be sold at ABL/Goldpanners games, visitor centers, museum gift shops, and partner websites.Proceeds can help support Alaska's Week of Dreams activities, including travel and accommodations for the former MLB players.
