This panel exhibition illustrates eight years of war through the experiences of Major Nicholas Fish, just 17 years old when the war began. His participation in the eight-year-long struggle forced him to choose freedom over family. With his friends Alexander Hamilton and the Marquis de Lafayette, he was close to George Washington and played an important part in the victory at the Battle of Yorktown; he is included in the Trumbull painting of Cornwallis' surrender. Also included in the exhibit are personal artifacts and portraits. An opening night reception on May 1 will feature a performance by storyteller Jonathan Kruk. On Saturday, May 9, the Hearts of Oak reenactors will be at the Library from 1 to 3 p.m. The exhibit will be open during Library hours from May 1 through June 15.
