Join the Little Rock Regional Chamber and Rex Nelson on June 22nd from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on the 5th Floor of the Main Library in the Fred Darragh Center for Intellectual Freedom for a forward-looking conversation on Arkansas' place in the national landscape. On July 4, 2026, the United States will mark its semiquincentennial, a historic 250-year milestone since the signing of the Declaration of Independence. This moment invites Arkansans to reflect not only on our shared past, but also on the role we will play in shaping the state’s economic and civic future. The Little Rock Regional Chamber is excited to convene business leaders and members of the community for this forward-looking conversation on Arkansas’ place in the national landscape. Drawing on decades of experience in journalism, public policy, and economic development, Nelson offers a compelling perspective on Arkansas’s role in the broader American narrative, grounding the discussion in history and identity. He will also explore what Arkansas could—and should—look like by America’s 300th birthday. From talent attraction and rural development to infrastructure and quality of life, this session will highlight the opportunities and challenges that will define the state’s next era of growth. A senior editor at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Nelson is one of Arkansas’ most recognized voices on politics, culture, and economic development. He authors multiple weekly columns and long-form essays and is widely known for his blog Southern Fried and the Southern Fried podcast. His career spans leadership roles at the state and federal levels, including service under Mike Huckabee and as an appointee in the administration of George W. Bush with the Delta Regional Authority. Insightful, candid, and forward-looking, this conversation is not about history alone. It is about momentum and the decisions that will define what comes next.
