In 1976, Mrs. Sylvia Hicks of Newark Ohio baked an 85-pound, red-white-and-blue Bicentennial cake to celebrate America's 200th birthday with the students of William Junior High School. Her act of pure community Love was featured in The Newark Advocate. Fifty years later, her family is doing it again. Join us at VFW Post 969 Recreation Park in Orting, WA - where her son serves as Post President - for the Hicks' Tribute Block Party, celebrating America's 250th Birthday. We'll honor her legacy with community including a "Declaration Signing" Photo booth, The Community Time Capsule burial, +250 cupcakes, watermelon eating contest, and BBQ. Family fun including Karaoke, cornhole, horseshoes, ladder golf, giant Jenga, ring and bean bag toss, 13 colonies relay, bucket brigade and Patriotic Spirit gift bags. Free and open to the public.
