The 5th Annual Meeker Skijor. (This schedule is subject to change due to weather) As a modern expression of Old Frontier Spirit, skijoring is not just a sport; it is a cultural bridge. It connects: the winter hardships of frontier ranching, the cowboy's resourcefulness and horsemanship that turned survival skills into a competition event. In essence, skijoring survives because it embodies the same values that defined the historic cowboy: courage, innovation, showmanship, partnership with horses, and a willingness to turn everyday challenges into opportunities for community and celebration. Registration starts at the Meeker Cafe, 560 Main Street, on Friday. Saturday starts the competition at the fairgrounds, followed by the calcutta on Main Street at 6 p.m. Sunday is much the same, beginning at the fairgrounds and finishing up at the Meeker Cafe. We commemorate the AM 250/CO150 with a full demonstration, celebration, and competition of this time-honored skillset founded in the American West.
