Revolutionary New York: 250 Years of Social Change talk with Ashley Hopkins-Benton

As we begin commemorations of the 250th anniversary of the American Revolution, we must also recognize the ways the revolution fell short of its ideals, and those who were left behind as the documents of our new nation were drafted. New Yorkers were leaders in many of the unfinished revolutions that followed, and this talk will focus on those for LGBTQ+ rights, women’s rights, and the environment.

Ashley Hopkins-Benton is a senior historian and curator of social history at the New York State Museum and author of the chapter "The Stonewall Uprising and the Fight for Gay Rights" in the new book Revolutionary New York: 250 Years of Social Change, edited by Bruce W. Dearstyne.
