The winter of 1777 saw a Forage War across Somerset County and the surrounding region as the Continental Army and New Jersey Militia fought a continuing campaign of skirmishes with British and Hessian forces, denying them access to vital provisions and ultimately the interior of New Jersey.
Will Krakower, New Jersey’s historian for Princeton Battlefield State Park, introduces the Forage War of January – March 1777 and shares research into this critical but understudied period of the Revolutionary War.
